Description
Large Orcio vase Donne e Architettura. Blue and white decoration. Arte di Gio Ponti Collection.
The decoration, in shades of blue and white, depicts eight female figures lying on clouds that differ from each other in the positions of their limbs and delicate hairstyles. The names of each woman are read on the neck of the vase, and in the background are glimpses of complex antiquarian-inspired architecture where historical quotations are recognizable, from the Pyramids to the Colosseum. In the work, created with brush painting on a majolica support, the master Gio Ponti traces millennia of history through Greek, Roman and ancient Egyptian traditions to the more modern Renaissance. In a numbered series, it bears the initials of the painter. The high level of preparation required for the creation of this masterpiece, as well as the complexity and timing in its execution, makes the two jugs in the series particularly valuable, the production of which is currently done exclusively on commission. In this reissue, the Manifattura expresses the savoir fa and skill of the Ginori 1735 masters in the creation of a work that is part of the Arte di Gio Ponti collection, with which the story of tradition and craftsmanship that has made the Florentine Maison known throughout the world is told.
