Among Gio Ponti's most original inventions is the perforated disc featuring the Amore degli Angeli pattern, designed in 1929. For the designer, the angels were not traditional Christian symbols, but mythological creatures akin to mermaids, embodiments of his own imaginative reinterpretation of iconography. This bold pattern, the result of his playful and inventive spirit, adorns the perforated disc, intertwining angelic figures with erotic symbols in a combination as captivating as it is extravagant. The creatures embrace each other in different poses around the disc, while the back of the scene is decorated with geometric patterns that reference other recurring elements in his works.

Stylistically, Amore degli Angeli is distinguished by its elegant simplicity and skillful use of gold details, which lend luminosity and sacredness to the composition. The pattern, as in many of Gio Ponti's works for Ginori 1735, represents a perfect balance between classicism and modernity, with references to Renaissance art and esoteric symbolism. This piece, like the others in the series, is entirely hand-painted with meticulous attention to the original design and is part of a limited numbered edition, signed by the artist under the base plate.

Each design conceived by the maestro Gio Ponti turns out to be a skillful mélange of iconography and symbolism: enigmatic and poetic creations that have left an indelible imprint as much in the history of the Ginori 1735 Manifattura, as in the panorama of 20th century design around the world. The designer did not just create and enrich everyday objects, but managed to infuse each of them with an avant-garde vision that lies somewhere between playfulness and spirituality, between ornament and hidden meaning. With his far-sighted and bold vision, Gio Ponti helped to strengthen the image of Ginori 1735 as the excellence of Made in Italy in the world, exporting Italian taste and design to international contexts. To this day, his creations for the Manifattura are still considered milestones in design and are re-proposed and studied as examples of the perfect balance between art and functionality.

A pioneer in his field, architect and designer Gio Ponti combined traditional craftsmanship and modern aesthetics with a forward-looking and versatile approach, laying the foundations of Italian design in the 20th century. His work transcended the boundaries of individual disciplines, making him one of the most influential figures of Italian modernism and an icon of the Renaissance. In addition to his collaboration with Ginori 1735, his contributions were not limited to the world of porcelain: his career flourished through innovative architectural projects interior design and founding the Domus magazine, which solidified his status as a cultural and artistic visionary for nearly six decades. His constant search for beauty has left a legacy that continues to shape the contemporary landscape, inspiring generations of architects and designers.

Maestro Gio Ponti's tenure as artistic director of Richard Ginori from 1923 to 1933 marked a phase of rebirth for the historic porcelain manufacturer.
At a time of deep crisis,
Gio Ponti managed to infuse it with a new spirit of modernity, combining the Italian artisan tradition with industrial innovation. Under his leadership, Richard Ginori became a symbol of elegance, innovation, excellence and creativity beyond national borders.
The maestro's skill in blending classical motifs with contemporary
design and introducing iconographic and symbolic elements led to the creation of works of art.
With foresight,
Gio Ponti succeeded in his intent: to position the Manifattura as a leader in modern porcelain and decor, enabling it to acquire a strong global appeal, which it still retains today.
