Description
Green porcelain plate "Amazzone con Giavellotto". Arte di Gio Ponti Collection.
The decoration was conceived by Gio Ponti to be developed specifically on majolica, although he himself later arranged for it to be executed also on porcelain in agate-tipped gold. Because of its narrative theme, consisting of scenes of deer hunting conducted by Amazons with their pack of dogs, this series took the name Venatoria, with each item depicting a scene from the moment of hunting. This decoration represents one of the last scenes to be narrated throughout the entire series of plates and vases in the same line: the Triumph of the Amazons capturing their prey following a deer hunt. Arte di Gio Ponti expresses the Florentine Maison's savoir-faire excellence in an emblematic collection that tells the story of Ginori 1735 through the most significant works born of the creative flair of the renowned architect, Creative Director of the Manifattura from 1923 to 1933.
